COVID 19 and Your Health
COVID 19 has created, in fact mandated, a change in how we view and participant in health programs, fitness, and, well, life in general.
It’s a weird world we live in now. Last year we were told to stay away from family and friends, to stay inside our homes and everything will be fine. Gyms were closed. Restaurants and movie theaters were closed. Society, itself, was closed for renovations!!
It amazes me that in all the talk about COVID 19 and health, there was no mention of the psychological effects it was having on people everywhere. If fact, the very recommendations given were in direct conflict with guidelines for health and wellbeing. Human beings are social creatures. We need physical and social contact. There’s a reason prisoners are sent to isolation as punishment! All political nonsense aside, COVID 19 did more than infect our bodies, it created a societal response that potentially made us more unhealthy and more likely to contract any illness.
More people than ever increased their intake of alcohol (and drugs), increased unhealthy food consumption (hello, comfort food), increased inactivity (no gyms), and increased fear and stress levels.
Now that the world is bouncing back here and there, people are finding themselves with excess weight, increased stress levels, and unhealthy eating habits. “What’s a girl to do?” “Well, thank you, sir, for asking.” First of all, you can get moving, clean out the junk food in your cabinets, and put down the bottle.
If going to the gym concerns you, train at home. There are plenty of programs available that require very little space and equipment. Yoga classes are a great start. They’ll help you de-stress and get your muscles moving. Go to the movie theater (if one is open nearby), go for a walk, go visit your local pet shelter, and/or start meditating. If you’re feeling any psychological effects (i.e., depression, anxiety, paranoia), please consult a licensed therapist in your area.
The point is to be proactive and take charge of your health and fitness starting now! You deserve to be the healthiest version of you as possible!
